A Romantic Weekend in San Miguel de Allende

September 2018 | San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

My dear Lalo surprised me on the weekend of our first month anniversary as boyfriend and girlfriend by taking me to San Miguel de Allende.

It was Saturday morning, he woke me up and told me to pack my bags because we were going somewhere for the weekend. We got into the car and left the city, although I had no idea where was he taking me I was really excited, it was going to be our first getaway together.

We got there after a four hour drive, checked into the boutique hotel and rest for a bit. The hotel we were staying was “Los Picachos”, this hacienda-like place, very beautiful, minimalist and modern. Great for relaxing or if you’re looking for a place with a quieter vibe.

After that we made our way to the historic center and started exploring the cobblestone streets with walls either painted in yellow, red, or brown sandstone and contrasting accents. The Parroquia has this Neo-gothic architecture and was built with locally quarried pink sandstone. The town is rich in Spanish colonial history with its square two story buildings with courtyards and high archways.

We spent the whole weekend eating at many of the excellent restaurants like Quince Rooftop, Panio, Café San Agustin, Cumpanio and Pueblo Viejo; all of these highly recommended.

We experienced the San Miguel chic-culture by walking down the alleyways, checking the little boutiques and finding artists galleries like the photographer Ted Davis Galeria.

It had been a very long time since we both visited San Miguel so it was kinda like going to a new place all over again. The whole weekend was so romantic and fun, we took many photos and went to the viewpoint right before going back to the city. It was the perfect way of ending the trip.

Thanks a mil to my love for the best weekend!
